Postnatal

I am here to support you adjust to your new role and navigate the lifestyle change. The weeks after birth can be an emotional rollercoaster; going from feeling huge surges of love to feeling lonely, overwhelmed and exhausted. This can leave you with a sudden knock in confidence, whilst forgetting your innate natural ability.

My job is to be a calming presence, cheerleader and support so that you can flourish during this precious period. I will be there to hold time and space in whatever way that might look and benefit you the most. I strongly believe that reducing stress and promoting time to rest and bond, is the most important thing for you and your baby in this period. When cortisol is high, oxytocin is low. Oxytocin, as well as being the love hormone, is a rest and restorative hormone helping with recovery and fighting infection. Much of what I do is focused on rebalancing these hormones.

Aspects like getting used to a new routine can be mentally taxing, especially when you can have so much extra attention from loved ones, who want to come meet the baby and see you. Similarly, external people feel the need to give you their opinion on what they think is the best way to do things and with so much varying information out there, the postnatal period can be a daunting place.

I am here to help in the following ways:

Role of postnatal doula:

  1. Emotional support: discuss any thoughts and feelings around the birth and check in and see how you are and how the baby is.

  2. Feeding Support: support chest and bottle feeding and refer you to further support if necessary.

  3. Physical support: allow you some time to yourself (rest, shower), while I look after the baby.

  4. Household support: help with light laundry, cleaning and cooking.

  5. Educational support: help inform you with evidence-based information and be a soundboard to make decisions.

Think of me as your personal cheerleader, helping you succeed in this new chapter of life.
